On October 14, 2024, POWERBASE partners met in Frankfurt to solidify our plans for future procurement of renewable energy solutions by emergency response organisations.
The POWERBASE project will provide pathways for climate neutral civil protection organisations.
POWERBASE coordinator Alexander Rƶsner, Ph.D., gave an overview of the project and its aims. He emphasised the importance of the project: “There is an elephant in the rooms and someone has to talk about it” – Transition to sustainable sources of energy is that elephant/challenge for union civil production organisations that the POWERBASE project aims to address.
Next, Natalja Miolato from the EC Commision (European Research Executive Agency – REA) gave a word of welcome. She talked about the EU commitment to advance civil protection and support the green transition of emergency response organisations, and how POWERBASE results feedback into EU policy.
There were also talks by the leaders of WP1 – Management and Project Governance (THW, Alexander Rƶsner) , and WP2 – Capability Gap analysis. For the latter, Bjƶrn Hoog from Fraunhofer Gesellschaft INT presented the work on Needs Assessment and State-of-the-Art analysis to enable the identification of potential solutions that can meet the sustainable energy needs of civil protection agencies.
The project also issued a press release – see below.
